Baby looking at book

Ollie here was excited to get his Brain Bag. Soon babies inNorth Carolina and Ohio will share that joy!

Studer Community Institute has partnered with two hospital systems - one in Cincinnati and one in Laurinburg, N.C. - to help them bring the Brain Bag concept to their communities.

We are so proud of the chance to share what we've learned in our journey with these two great partners in building Early Learning Cities all across the country.

Scotland Health System in Laurinburg, N.C., will launch their in-hospital education program in mid-August. It will include Brain Bags similar to those handed out in Escambia County hospitals since mid 2017. It also comes with a video lesson that reinforces that message for parents.

The TriHealth partnership in Cincinnati is exciting because it will include in-hospital education on how healthy brain development is fueled by parent interaction from the first days of a baby's life. It also will bring pediatric clinics and practices into the fold from the launch of he project.

That's exciting because we think that reinforcing the message that reading, talking, singing and playing with your baby throughout the first three years of life is critical for parents.

Adapting these teaching points for use in the routine well-baby visits is an important piece of building community-level change in how every adult thinks about the development and school readiness of every child. We can't wait to bring the lessons from that aspect of the partnership back to Pensacola for implementation here, too.

Research is showing us increasingly that giving a child a healthy foundation in brain development can have positive impacts not only in school readiness, but also in mental and physical well-being. Some studies suggest that impact lasts  far into adulthood.

At the core of our work is our belief that parents who know more, have a chance to do more.

We can't wait to share with you more about what we learn.
