Escambia community centers host free after-school programs

Escambia County is offering two free after-school programs for youth starting this fall at the Brownsville Community Resource Center and the Ebonwood Community Center.

The Play, Learn, Grow after-school program at Brownsville Community Center is open to students in grades K-12, with educational and recreational activities throughout the school year. The program starts Aug. 20 and runs through May 24.

Activities include homework assistance, subject remediation and project-based learning activities.

The free program runs from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Mondays-Fridays at Brownsville Community Center, 3200 W. DeSoto St.
To register your child for the program, call the center Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at (850) 595-7858 or the Escambia County Neighborhood & Human Services Department at (850) 595-3130.

The other program, The Youth Connection, is hosted at the Ebonwood Community Center. This program provides children ages 6-18 educational, cultural, sports, and community enrichment programs; to build confidence and self-esteem.

It begins Aug. 20 and ends May 24 and runs Mondays-Fridays from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Center, 3511 W. Scott St. Activities include academic enrichment, arts and crafts, educational programs, drama and cultural activities, events, guest speakers and more.
