Since the Deepwater Horizon disaster in April 2010, money from the British oil company BP has flowed to the Gulf Coast to help remedy the damage.

That “BP money” has come through various agencies from various pots of money and has covered four areas: tourism promotion, economic claims, natural resource and environmental damage and recreation or human use lost to the spill.

Last week came the most recent announcement of such funding. The Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Council, created by law in July 2012, announced its draft funding priorities list for projects across the Gulf.

This list is funded with money from the settlement with Transocean Deepwater Inc., the offshore drilling contractor that was operating the rig at the time of the explosion that killed 11 people.

Some $8.2 million in projects in Escambia County made the list. A series of public meetings across the Gulf Coast will go on through September to take input on the list. Check the list of meetings here.

Multimedia content editor Ron Stallcup put together this look at how the process works.
