The sixth annual TC Skate Jam returns to Waterboyz on Saturday, September 5. For the past five years, a skateboard competition has been held each year in remembrance of avid skateboarder, Tyler” T.C.” McCoy.

T.C. McCoy passed away in 2009 because of a car accident on Labor Day weekend. He loved skateboarding and Waterboyz with a passion. Maverick McCoy, the father of T.C., wanted to do something in his memory and has been hosting this skateboarding competition for the past five years.

I believe the Skate Jam gives the kids a safe venue to spend the day with other kids who share the same passion for skateboarding,” said Maverick McCoy. “It shows the community and those who choose to come by and spend a couple of hours watching these talented kids of the positive support system they provide for each other even while competing.”

The TC Skate Jam begins at noon on Saturday, September 5 at Waterboyz, 380 N. 9th Ave, Pensacola, FL 32502. Those wishing to compete may register online or at Waterboyz.

Maverick McCoy sponsors the competition by providing all of the prizes for the competition. The Grand Prize winner in the 14 to 16 year old division will receive a scholarship to a skate camp at
Camp Woodward
in Pennsylvania, roundtrip airfare and $500 in spending cash. Other category prizes include GoPro cameras, skateboards, trucks, wheels, bearings, and more.

McCoy said, “It would bring together his friends in a celebration of remembrance, and also give a child, who otherwise may not be able to go, a chance to go to the biggest skate park in the country.” In the past five years, the TC Skate Jam has sent 13 kids to Camp Woodward.

“It would bring together his friends in a celebration of remembrance, and also give a child, who otherwise may not be able to go, a chance to go to the biggest skate park in the country,” said Maverick McCoy.

TC Skate Jam tshirts will be sold on site and any proceeds from the event will benefit the Pensacola Humane Society. The proceeds will help provide food, vaccines, and care for the animals in the shelter while they animals wait to find their forever home. The Humane Society expects to care for more than 1,000 homeless pets this year, and the spay and neuter clinic will complete nearly 3,000 surgeries.
