A conversation Debbie Calder had with Escambia County School District Superintendent Malcolm Thomas stuck with her.

“I remember the superintendent telling me a couple of years ago, ‘Give me a kindergartener who’s ready for kindergarten and we’ll get them through school,’ ” says Calder, executive vice president of Navy Federal Credit Union.

Calder talks about the importance of kindergarten readiness during a segment on the Studer Community Institute’s TV show on BlabTV.

This week’s program, which is airing on BlabTV and live streaming, features the Institute’s Shannon Nickinson and Reggie Dogan interviewing a trio of Escambia County School District employees who played key roles in the 6.6 percent increase in the Escambia’s high school graduation rate.
