You just might be the next Steve Jobs or Steven King.

Well, it’s probably not that simple. But a new book, “Wired to Create,” looks at the minds of artists and innovators and highlights the traits that highly creative people share.

The book is by Dr. Scott Barry Kaufman, the scientific director of the Imagination Institute at the University of Pennsylvania, and Carolyn Gregoire, a Huffington Post writer whose article, “18 Things Highly Creative People Do Differently,” first touched on Kaufman’s research into creativity.

As a New York Times review of the book points out, creative people run the gamut of personalities. “This openness often yields a drive for exploration, which may be the single-most important personal factor predicting creative achievement,” according to the review.

Another key trait is the ability to connect the dots. In her Huffington Post article that listed the 18 things creative people do differently, Gregoire quotes Apple founder Jobs, who said:

“Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty, because they didn't really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while. That's because they were able to connect experiences they've had and synthesize new things."

The 18 things that creative people do differently:

— They work the hours that work for them

— They take time for solitude

— They turn life’s obstacles around

— They seek out new experiences

— They fail up

— They ask big questions

— They people watch

— They take risks

— They view all of life as an opportunity for self-expression

— They follow their true passions

— They lose track of the time

— They surround themselves with beauty

— They constantly shake things up
