The Pensacola Sports Association (PSA) is pleased to announce the renewed partnership with Whataburger restaurants to sponsor the PSA Senior Scholar Athlete Banquet on May 12, 2015. More than $100,000 in scholarships will be awarded to nearly 30 senior athletes. Whataburger and the PSA will award one male and one female student-athlete with a $500 scholarship to be used toward their first semester’s book expense. Additionally, the two awardees will win “Whataburger for a Year.” Any senior in Escambia and Santa Rosa County is eligible to apply. The annual banquet presented by Sacred Heart Health System recognizes over 200 senior athletes from Escambia and Santa Rosa County schools based on their academic performance combined with the student’s athletic skills. It is common for several of the nominees to be a school’s valedictorian or in the top 5% of their respective class. Senior student athletes can visit www.pensacolasports.com/whataburger to fill out the scholarship application form. The selection committee is looking for individuals who have performed well in the class room, participated in a varsity sport(s), and have contributed to their community through volunteer hours and extracurricular activities and clubs. April 25 is the deadline to submit a scholarship application. “This is arguably the best event we manage each year,” commented PSA’s Executive Director Ray Palmer. “Meeting these young men and women and hearing their stories of what they have accomplished makes for an amazing night. Having Whataburger’s support of this event again this year is a plus to an already great night.” A majority of the $100K plus scholarships come from event partners Pensacola State College and the University of West Florida. Other scholarships and recognitions include the a $3,000 scholarship to the Senior Scholar Overall Male and Female provided by the Pensacola Sports Association Foundation, the Gary McAdams Scholarship which is funded by the Cap’n Fun Runners and the Dr. Alec Kessler Memorial Scholarship. “We are so thrilled to participate in this year’s event by providing two special scholarships to be awarded that night,” said Lee Cartledge, Director of Operations for Whataburger. “Giving back to the communities that we call home has always been a focus for Whataburger and we are honored to celebrate the achievements of these amazing young athletes.” For more information on the Senior Scholar Banquet or other Pensacola Sports Association events, visit pensacolasports.com or call 434-2800.
