The Art Gallery at the University of West Florida will present, “A Tale of Five Flags,” as the opening event for Foo Foo Fest Nov. 6-9. Artel Gallery and TAG UWF are partnering with PaintScaping, a Los Angeles-based company, to present the unique projection-based performance on the facade of the former Escambia County Courthouse, currently known as Artel Gallery, located at 223 Palafox Place in downtown Pensacola. The show will start at 7 p.m. and will run every half hour until 9:30 p.m. PaintScaping is the world leader on 3D mapping and has produced performances from Quebec City to Cancun, Hawaii to Houston, and Los Angeles to Las Vegas. "We're super excited to make a customized performance to kick-off the Foo Foo Fest,” said Philippe Bergeron, president of PaintScaping. “With the long and varied history of Pensacola, it gave us a wealth of really cool things to do. This show will be a merging of visual art, film and theater and the only way to experience it will be to come and see it in person." [/sidebar] The 3D mapping will transform the Artel Gallery’s facade through special projection technology. This allows the building to become a canvas on which a visual narrative will tell the story of Pensacola, from before it was settled through the occupation by the Spanish, French and British. There will be a nod to the Revolutionary War, the rise of the modern era and even a virtual hurricane that will destroy the building before your eyes. “It has been exciting to work with PaintScaping and Suzanne Robbert, president of Artel Gallery, to bring an event to the Pensacola community that usually only happens in larger cities,” said Nicholas Croghan, gallery director of TAG UWF. “3D Mapping Projection is a new and intriguing art form combining traditional artistic methods and principles with current technology to create a breathtaking experience for spectators.” Have a peek here.
