Popular marine wildlife artist Dr. Guy Harvey is coming to the Pensacola Museum of Art on May 15 from 5 – 6:30 p.m. This event will take place during his exhibition The Lure of the Ocean: Original Works by Guy Harvey, on display May 9-August 9, 2015. In this exhibition Harvey combines his artistic gifts with his background as a marine biologist, diver, photographer and angler to create his unique and colorful pieces. Harvey is self-taught and credits his childhood growing up on the island of Jamaica for his artistry. While attending a boarding school in England Harvey became enamored with The Old Man and the Sea by Earnest Hemingway and developed a series of sketches based on the novel. In 1985, Harvey opened his first solo show that displayed the 44 pen and ink drawings he created based on The Old Man and the Sea. While Harvey is widely recognized for his aquatic themed merchandise, he is much more than just a t-shirt brand. In addition to being an artist, Harvey is a scientist, conservationist, and explorer. Harvey earned his Ph. D. from the University of the West Indies in 1984 and devotes much of his time to traveling the world in pursuit of unveiling the mysteries of the deep. This reception is a ticketed event. Tickets are $100/per person and $150/per couple. Tickets can be purchased by visiting www.pensacolamuseum.org.
