Kim John Payne, author of the best selling book Simplicity Parenting, is speaking in Pensacola tonight. Creative Learning Academy, a private Pensacola school, is hosting the renowned speaker to present a lecture parenting and social inclusion, June 2. Payne has appeared frequently on national television and radio news shows and has been featured in a variety of publications including Time Magazine, Parenting, and Mothering. He has been a consultant and trainer to over 200 North American independent and public schools, sharing his experience as a school counselor, adult educator, and consultant. Payne helps children, teens, and families explore issues like social difficulties with siblings and classmates, attention and behavioral issues, addiction, and the importance of living a balanced and simple life. His presentation will also set out three cumulative discipline phases to help parents and educators "establish the kind of discipline that is both nurturing and effective," said Payne. That includes training creative compliance for a young child, building emotional skills for elementary age, and managing critical choices for teens. "Because so many of our parenting and teaching challenges occur naturally as part of child development it is possible to anticipate these difficulties and to prepare for them in advance," said Payne. "For discipline to be effective it must always begin with preventive discipline." If you'd like to hear him speak, Payne will give his lecture at the Creative Learning Academy gymnasium on Hyde Park Road, June 2, from 6 - 7 p.m. You can learn more about Kim John Payne and his social inclusion initiative on his website.
