NEWS RELEASE -- Downtown shoppers will find a familiar face at a new location next week as Susan Campbell Jewelry opens their doors in The Artisan on Palafox and Main.  The new location will host a grand opening on Thursday and Friday, June 19 and 20 with Friday night’s Gallery Night featuring an All-Artist Trunk Show.

Campbell’s move to the SoGo district -- the area south of Government Street -- brings another offering to the cultural center of downtown Pensacola. The newly-named SoGo area is a growing hotbed of culture, shopping, relaxation and dining.

Pensacola native Campbell and husband, Ryan Hatler, returned to Pensacola nine years ago and opened Susan Campbell Jewelry. The store carries fine jewelry by independent brands including Anne Sportun, Sarah Graham, Jamie Josephs, Suzanne Kalan, Sethi Coture, and a house favorite, the diamond “shakes” of Moritz Glik.

Campbell also carries the eclectic and popular items of Melissa Joy Manning, who has a line with Anthropology. Fun costume items are also available by Suzanna Dai and Dafné who was on the cover of May’s Cosmopolitan Magazine and in the pages of Allure.

“Haute, Hip and Fine” is the caption on Campbell’s Instagram account and she thinks it adequately sums up the work in her gallery.

“I am an artist first. The collections I carry must be creative and appeal to an aesthetic that I have developed over the years. The fine jewelry we carry is above board, made one piece at a time, with precision and care,” says Campbell. “The art of metalsmithing has always fascinated me, it is one of the oldest art forms. Gold has been around and manipulated since the beginning of time and that tradition is worth celebrating.”

The Artisan is at the site of the old Penko Building, which stood abandoned for at least a decade and has recently undergone a stylish facelift.  Six retail spaces now make up the bottom floor of the building, five of which have been leased as completion draws near.  The Artisan is located at the corner of Palafox and Main, where just three years ago all four corners stood abandoned.

Now, this bustling intersection is home to The Bodacious Olive, The Bodacious Brew, Carmen’s Lunch Bar, Mainline Art House, Tip McAlpin’s, Scout and Don Allens. The area also includes the al Fresco food park, Fiore, Shux Oyster House, and coming soon, Pure Pilates, Volume One, and more.

NEED TO PARK?

Free two-hour curbside parking is available all around Plaza Ferdinand and throughout the SoGo District.  Free, unrestricted parking is just two blocks away south of Cedar Street, between Jefferson and Commendencia streets.
