Recently, Escambia County's Southwest Sportsplex celebrated its second anniversary, and in this episode of "The Robertson Report," District 1 Commissioner Wilson Robertson takes a look at the impact the facility has had on the area.

The $9 million facility opened in the fall of 2012 with a new football field. Now baseball, soccer, cheerleading, football and lacrosse are on the menu on the 17 fields at the complex.

Though it hosts several large tournaments, Parks Department Director Michael Rhodes said the primary focus of the complex is to offer youth sports programming for local kids. More than 124 youth teams used the facility in 2013, Rhodes said.

The Sportsplex was funded through the local option sales tax money and is managed through a partnership with the Perdido Bay Youth Sports Association and the Perdido Bay Futbol Club.
