New details are also being released about the Century Business Challenge. Quint & Rishy Studer are donating $25,000 to help jump start business in Century. The cash and other incentives will be awarded to the developer of the winning business plan. Those who want to learn more about the competition can visit the website, www.centurybusinesschallenge.com, which expected to come online Jan. 30 along with the business challenge application and other information. The deadline for applications will be the end of March. Finalists will be notified by mid-April. Then they will enter an eight- to 10-week program tailored by the Small Business Development Center. A winner is expected to be announced by July. Three judges will evaluate the submissions. The winning business will get space at the newly renamed Century Business Center on Pond Street and its name will go up on the sign outside the facility. Mayor Freddie McCall has agreed to enter into a lease agreement for $1 the first year, with the possibility of the same lease rate for two subsequent years, depending on the health of the company. The Small Business Development Center has agreed to host an orientation session in Century for potential competitors, but the details are still being finalized. The SBDC also plans to offer free business planning software free to all applicants as well as make their consultants available for one-on-one counseling sessions throughout the process.
