Ready for one more change to the intersection of 12th Avenue and Bayou Boulevard? On Thursday the Florida-Alabama Transportation Planning Organization voted to restore the intersection to its original configuration prior to the installation of the westbound right turn lane on Bayou Boulevard. The intersection’s shift inspired complaints almost from the time it debuted. TPO chairman, and Pensacola City Councilman Charles Bare said the changes made to the intersection of 12th and Bayou over the past few years created confusing and dangerous conditions. “By passing a resolution to restore the intersection to its previous condition, the TPO sent a clear message to the Florida Department of Transportation that safety is a critical part of transportation planning," Bare wrote in a news release. "I thank my fellow TPO members for working together to improve this dysfunctional intersection." The subcommittee is authorized to spend up to $10,000 for assistance from local design professionals familiar with local traffic issues as well as design professionals familiar with MOT plans for projects of similar magnitude. The MOT plan will be presented to the TPO at a future meeting for approval prior to submittal to FDOT.
