Chef John Besh spices up Taste of the Beach

Celebrity chef John Besh will spice up this year’s eighth annual Taste of the Beach, Sept. 18-19, at the Gulfside Pavilion on Pensacola Beach. Besh is a Louisiana-raised restaurateur who owns 11 acclaimed restaurants. Eight of them are located in the Greater New Orleans area. He is a well-known face and frequent contributor on national television shows such “Iron Chef” on Food Network. He’s the host of two PBS cooking shows, the author of three cookbooks and the new star of “Hungry Investors,” a show that airs on Spike network. His nonprofit foundation works to protect and preserve the culinary heritage and foodways of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast area. Besh hosts Friday night’s VIP event – tickets are available for $65/person – and party-goers can sample delicious coastal cuisines presented by Besh and six of the beach’s finest chefs. Entry is free for Saturday’s day-long festival, with signature dishes priced at $5 or less. The event features a special cooking demonstration, chef competitions, live entertainment and kid-friendly activities. Fun for all ages begins bright and early Saturday morning with a Chef Cook-Off beginning at 10 a.m. Throughout the day, 24 Pensacola Beach restaurants will feature signature dishes for $5 or less. Festival-goers can enjoy watching live chef demonstrations, cooking competitions, dessert contests and award presentations. A free, live concert will close out the festival at 7 p.m. Besh will take the Gulfside Pavilion Stage on Sept. 19 at 1 p.m. for a live cooking demonstration. Immediately following will be a short Q-and-A session and then a meet-and-greet where Besh will sign autographs.
