City of Pensacola taxpayers should not expect to see a tax rate increase for 2016.

The City of Pensacola starts its budget hearings this morning, and each city department will make its case for its financial needs over the next two days. The meetings will be in the Hagler Mason Conference room at City Hall and start at 9 a.m. both days. Watch online here.

Last week City Council set the tentative millage rate — the rate at which property taxes are levied — at 4.2895 mils for the city and 2 mils for the Downtown Improvement Board.

That’s the same tax rate that was in place this year.

A mill is equal to $1 of tax per $100,000 of taxable value. That means on a property worth $100,000, the tax bill would be $428.95.

The meeting agendas are here.

The City’s preliminary taxable value for fiscal year 2016 is $3,183,091,153 — a 3.78 percent increase from this year.

The public hearings for the millage rate are set for Sept. 9 and Sept. 16.
