College jazz bands to perform at Jazz Society's Jazz Gumbo on April 20

Jazz bands from Pensacola State College and Northwest Florida State College in Niceville will be featured performers for the Jazz Society’s regular third-Monday Jazz Gumbo Event at Seville Quarter in downtown Pensacola. Also performing are the recent winners of the Jazz Society’s Student Jazz Competition. [sidebar] Who: Jazz Society of Pensacola Presents What: Jazz Gumbo Event featuring jazz bands from PSC and NW FL State College plus Student Jazz Competition winners When: Monday April 20, 6:30 p.m. Where: Seville Quarter, 130 E. Government St, Downtown Pensacola Details: Cost is $10 for JSOP Members and their guests; $15 for public; $5 for students with ID. Free for service personnel in uniform. Admission is free for those joining the JSOP at the event. ($35 single; $50 for couple) [/sidebar] Jazz Society President Roger Villines said, “We were all disappointed that adverse weather predictions for last Sunday necessitated cancellation of the second day of our 32ndPensacola JazzFest. However, we had great music and enthusiastic crowd of about 6,000 for our event on Saturday. The jazz bands from PSC and NW FL State College, who could not perform on Sunday, will be performing for us this coming Monday. Also a special treat will be the winners of the high school and college student jazz competition just recently completed. These student winners were also scheduled for a cameo performance on Sunday. So, in effect, the audience will be treated to portions of the cancelled Sunday JazzFest performance.” Villines continued, “It has been our pleasure and privilege at the Jazz Society to work with the larger community from the beginning of JazzFest in 1983. The Jazz Society has been the sole presenter since 1999.
