This is Kaylee Stevens, a 14-year-old freshman wrestler at Gulf Breeze High School. "I just started wrestling this year, but there were no girl wrestlers in any of the area high schools, so I had to wrestle boys in my weight class. That includes boys from all grades." Why did you decide to become a wrestler? "I have a black belt in karate and I have been studying jiujitsu." How many boys have you wrestled and how many have you beaten? "I've had about 30 matches against boys and beaten about half of them. After those matches I was able to wrestle a few high school girls from South Florida and I finished sixth at the state meet." Have you gotten any negative comments from any of the boys you have wrestled? "No, but there was a mom at a meet who did not approve of girls wrestling. I just figured I must have beaten her son. The guys I have wrestled have all been nice and the crowd always cheers for me. Some of the guys I have beaten actually have tried to call, text and Facebook me." [progresspromise]
