Dermatologist David Gaston, MD, Scott McMartin, MD, and Kevin Welch, MD, along with the staff at The Dermatology & Laser Center at Medical Center Clinic, will be providing free skin checks at the Opening Night of Pensacola’s Blue Wahoos, on April 9th. The Dermatology & Laser Center tent will be set up near the front entry gate of Maritime Park. As the game’s attendees arrive to the stadium, they will have the opportunity to gather more information from the providers regarding the prevention of skin cancer and can receive a free examination on frequently exposed skin- i.e., face, neck, arms, and legs. The dermatologists will be available until the start of the game for any questions or recommendations regarding skin health. Attendees will also receive free sunscreen, SPF chapstick, and additional material on how to keep your skin sun- healthy. Skin screenings are very important, as they help find skin cancers. When cancers, such as basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, are caught early they are highly treatable. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer in the course of a lifetime. Dermatologist, Dr. Scott McMartin recommends, “To wear an SPF of 30 or higher and ensure that it is broad spectrum and water resistant when you are outdoors.” For more information regarding skin cancer screenings and the services provided by The Dermatology & Laser Center, please call 850.474.8386 or visit MCCdermatology.com
