Unlike in the past, motorists will have to appear in person to renew transponders for the Bob Sikes Toll Plaza. Escambia County officials urge motorists with active passes to renew before the end of the year to avoid disruption in their transponder service, Because of upcoming construction and improvements to the toll plaza, transponder users will also need to have a decal attached to the top right corner of their vehicle for 2015. The decal must be installed by a SRIA staff member, which means the motorist must drive the vehicle on which the decal will be affixed. The office is at 1 Via De Luna. Anyone wanting to sign up as a new annual pass holder can do so at the Santa Rosa Island Authority office beginning on Jan. 5. The cost of the annual toll pass will remain $50 for the general public and $70 for commercial vehicles. There currently are 10,558 active users of the annual toll pass. Through the end of the year, the Santa Rosa Island Authority hours for the transponder renewal will be Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., through the end of the year. Applications can be picked up at any open toll booth, at the Santa Rosa Island Authority or found at www.sria-fla.com.
