A break in an 6-inch sewer line caused a 7,000 gallon sewer overflow on Oct. 23, the Emerald Coast Utilities Authority reported. The leak was at the intersection of Copter Road and North Davis Highway. ECUA estimates that 6,900 gallons of the leak were recovered by vacuum and transported to the Central Water Reclamation Facility for proper disposal. ECUA crews have repaired the main and replaced a 12-foot section of the line. The overflow area was then cleaned and disinfected with a biocide agent that abated any contamination concerns, per state protocol. The Escambia County Health Department, the State Warning Point, and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection were notified. Questions? Call ECUA Customer Service at 476-0480.
