This summer Escambia County deputies will be available for a chat and a cup of joe. Dubbed “Coffee With a Cop,” the events are designed to help law enforcement and regular folks meet and talk on neutral ground, rather than in the emotionally charged atmosphere those meetings often take place in. The first event begins at 7 a.m. on July 7 at George’s Artisan Bistro at 1124 W. Garden St. in Pensacola. Other events will be held at different locations throughout the county. Coffee with a Cop breaks down barriers and allows for a relaxed, one-on-one interaction. “We hope that community members will feel comfortable to ask questions, bring concerns, or simply get to know our deputies,” said Sheriff David Morgan in the news release announcing the event. “These interactions are the foundation of community partnerships.” Coffee with a Cop is a national initiative supported by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. Similar events are planned across the county, as local police departments, sheriff’s offices, and state police forces strive to make lasting connections with the communities they serve.
