Gulf Power to help Mississippi town struck by tornado

UPDATE: The Weather Channel is reporting the tornado damage near Columbia, Miss. has rated an EF3. Confirmation if damage from Laurel and Columbia are from one tornado are still being assessed. A storm team of nearly 40 crew and support staff from Gulf Power left today to help sister company Mississippi Power restore power in Columbia, Miss. More than 50 power poles were down following tornados that swept through the area. The crews deployed from various company locations including Pensacola, Crestview and Chipley early this morning. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Mississippi,” said Jeff Rogers, Gulf Power Corporate Communications manager. “Rolling out on Christmas Eve has its challenges. Families have plans.
