Hopjacks Filling Station, an East Pensacola Heights subsidiary of the popular Palafox Place taproom, poured its last drinks Saturday night. The Filling Station opened in 2012 and sold many of the same food and drink offerings as the main Hopjacks location in downtown Pensacola, but also doubled as a package liquor store. Customers could refill their craft beer growlers from the many taps, or buy bottled beer to be consumed on- or off-premises. In a Facebook post Saturday, owner Joe Abston thanked the bar's patrons and blamed the closing on competition from discount retailers and convenience stores.
We would like to thank the long time supporters of the Hopjacks Filling Station. We would especially like to thank the talented and energetic staff that have made the Filling Station what it is. When this store was conceptualized, craft beer was hard to find in retail stores. Now you can go to CVS and find 15 different brands. Walmart sells craft beer for sometimes pennies over cost. It is not a development we could have imagined when we opened.
The Palafox location and the Nine Mile Road location will remain open.
