This year is the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Ivan roaring ashore in the Pensacola metro area.

Ivan made landfall at 2 a.m. near Gulf Shores, Ala., leaving the Pensacola area to shoulder the brunt of the storm’s powerful eastern edge.

Those 105 mph sustained winds ripped apart homes, landmarks and lives. But it did not destroy the powerful sense of community that binds the people of Northwest Florida together.

That spirit is what allows us to come out after the storm, check on our neighbors and start picking up the pieces.

That spirit outlasts any storm.

Graphics Editor Ron Stallcup looked back at Ivan's impact and produced this forensic analysis of the storm.
