Ice Flyers take final win at home over Huntsville Havoc

In their final home game before the playoffs, the Pensacola Ice Flyers claimed victory over the Huntsville Havoc with a final score of 3-2 on Tuesday night at the Pensacola Bay Center. Luke Greiner got Huntsville on the board first just over four minutes into the opening period. On the power play midway through the first, Adam Pawlick from behind the net found a wide open Nick Larson at the top of the circle. Larson ripped a shot high, stick side on Kevin Genoe to get the Ice Flyers in the game. At the 5:40 mark of the second, the Ice Flyers found themselves on a 5-0n-3 power play for 1:48 for a great opportunity to take the lead. The Havoc shut down Pensacola and with time expired on the final penalty, Huntsville's Ray Ortiz connected with Stuart Stefan fresh out of the box who found the back of the net to retake the lead for the only goal of the period. Nick McParland was the hero of the third for the Ice Flyers as he scored twice off beautiful setups from Brett Lutes early in the period and from Keegan Flaherty with 2:27 left in regulation. Genoe made his way to the bench with 1:05 remaining for the extra attacker, but Pensacola would hold on to take the 3-2 victory over Huntsville. The number one star of the game went to McParland for his two goals including the game-winning goal followed by Flaherty who had two assists and Larson for his first-period goal. With the win, Pensacola now holds a record of 30-18-6 for 66 points and have moved back into a tie with the Mississippi RiverKings for third. It is a crucial upcoming weekend as it will determine the final rankings going into the 2015 playoffs next week. The Ice Flyers still have a shot at claiming home-ice for the first round if they can jump ahead of the RiverKings in points. Both teams have two games remaining on their schedule with Pensacola taking on the seventh ranked FireAntz in Fayetteville Friday and Saturday and Mississippi taking on the top ranked Peoria Rivermen in Southaven on the same nights.
