According to a "virtual medal projection" by Infostrada, Pensacola's Justin Gatlin would defeat Usain Bolt in the 100-meter dash if the 2016 Rio Olympics were held today. As reported on NBC's OlympicTalk:
Usain Bolt would lose to American Justin Gatlin in the 100m, according to the projection. Gatlin, the 2004 Olympic 100m champion five years removed from a four-year doping ban, ran the fastest time in the world in 2014, a 9.77. Bolt’s last season was cut short due to foot surgery. He ran 9.98. Bolt and Gatlin last went head to head at the 2013 World Championships, won by Bolt, 9.77 to 9.85.
