The Escambia County School Board District 3 seat is up for grabs.
Incumbent Linda Moultrie faces Charlie Nichols for the position. The Pensacola News Journal previewed their race.
Said Moultrie: "The top three issues in the community that could be directly impacted by my position is student achievement, parental involvement in education and business/community partnerships, all impacting economic development." Sand Nichols: "a. Increasing the Graduation Rate: Research shows that communities with high graduation rates become a welcome door for businesses that are exploring relocation. As a result, businesses will help to strengthen the middle class thereby removing the possibility of the haves and have not. b. Lobby for Mandatory Pre-Kindergarten: Fifteen to 20 percent of students entering kindergarten are not ready for school. Providing mandatory pre-kindergarten helps to level the academic playing field for students and will reduce the school to prison possibility. c. Communication with the Constituency of District 3: I will host town hall meetings and provide other opportunities for the members of District 3 to communicate with their School Board Member.Read the story here.
