It's official: Chik-fil-a has landed at the Pensacola International Airport. The City planned a media event Thursday for the occasion, which comes the day after Standard & Poor's Rating Services affirmed the “BBB” rating of Pensacola International Airport’s revenue bonds and has revised its outlook on the bonds from negative to stable. The report issued by Standard & Poors highlighted the Airport’s strengths as a “good origin-destination market” and “good base of demand,”pointing out that Pensacola has had no fewer than about 701,000 enplanements per year dating back to 2005. “The outlook revision reflects our view of improved debt service coverage and liquidity that we expect will continue at sufficient levels for the rating,” said the report. Chik-fil-a, Pensacola Beach House bar and restaurant, Einstein Bros. Bagels, and Freshens, are all operated by OHM Concessions Group. einstein-bros-bagels-airportThe switch in airport concessions from longtime owner Robert De Varona to OHM was marked by controversy. The city reported Wednesday that sales are up by more than 15 percent over last year, and sales per enplaned passenger have increased from an FY14 average of $3.19 to $4.60 in April 2015. The Citys contract with OHM is expected to generate more than $1 million over 10 years in additional non-airline revenue for Pensacola International Airport. “Increasing our non-airline revenue will help us reduce the fees we charge airlines, allowing us to better compete for new carriers and new routes,” said Mayor Ashton Hayward III in a news release. “Continuing to grow our airport is critical as we work to secure a larger share of the future for Pensacola.”
