The Pensacola Sports Association (PSA) is pleased to announce the Pensacola Marathon Presented by Publix continues to grow and invite more runners to participate this year by adding a 5K category to the event weekend. This year’s race is on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2015. Now, participants will have the option of running the full marathon, half marathon, a marathon relay, or a 5K. Additionally, the Subway Kids Marathon participants will complete their marathon by running the final 1.2 miles, completing the 26.2 mile program. Registration for the 5K will open July 1 at www.marathonpensacola.com. Registration for the other categories is currently open. “We are excited about adding this component to the Pensacola Marathon event, making it more of a running festival,” said Pensacola Marathon Committee Chair Rick Johnson. “By adding the 5K, we’re giving more people the opportunity to get involved, have some fun, be active, and cheer on their fellow runners.” Starting at 6:30 a.m. with the rest of the participants, the 5K runners will begin and end at the same start and finish lines of the full and half marathon. The 5K course will take the runners through downtown and the historic district of Pensacola. “This gives local athletes the opportunity to participate in the event who might not be able to run and safely complete a half or full marathon,” added Johnson. “Additionally, it gives the spouses, family and/or friends traveling with half and full marathon participants something to do and a way to get involved while they are waiting for them to finish their respective races.” To register for the 5k or any other race category or for more information, visit marathonpensacola.com.
