The whitewashed plywood is down. Today, people from BlabTV and Pensacola Today moved into their new office on Palafox Street across from the Saenger Theatre. For the past six months, some of our staff members have been working on card tables and studio sets and just about anyplace where they could find a WiFi signal. We’ve had people spread out between BlabTV offices and the Rhodes Building on Jefferson Street. To say folks are excited about the new office space is an understatement. But this move means more to us than just a new office space. This move is one more step in BlabTV’s evolution. [caption id="attachment_12981" align="alignright" width="300"]Blab_progress The BlabTV and PensacolaToday.com space in July.[/caption] Almost 20 years ago the station moved into the back offices of 121 S. Palafox Place. It was a big deal for downtown in the mid-90s because the building, which used to be the old J.C. Penney store, had been vacant for 15 years. “We wanted to locate BlabTV downtown,” said the station’s founder Fred Vigodsky in a story that ran in the Pensacola News Journal in 1995. “We feel we are the community television station, and the community station should be downtown.” We agree. But today’s move takes Vigodsky’s vision one step further. We are no longer in the back of the building. Our storefront is now on Palafox Street, which has become the heart of downtown. And that’s where we want to be…in the heart of Pensacola. We have other steps to take in not only BlabTV’s evolution, but also Pensacola Today’s evolution. Once folks move into the new office on Palafox, we will begin a $100,000 upgrade of our studio. And it’s from this studio that we will air a morning show, an evenings news show, a sports show as well as our legacy programming that has done so much to make BlabTV, as Vigodsky said, “the community television station.” The evening news show will be called Pensacola Today. And while we have to wait for our new studio and set before we can launch the TV show, our PensacolaToday.com website is up and running. What is PensacolaToday.com? I could tell you, but this video does a better job: [youtube id="wYgEk3IcJdU"]
