Physicians selected to present research at national conference

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Eleven local physicians and a university professor have been selected to present research findings at a national conference this spring. The Pediatric Academic Societies (PAS) brings together four separate societies – the American Pediatric Society, the Society for Pediatric Research, the Academic Pediatric Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics – for the world’s largest annual meeting focused on research in child health. Presentations focus on original research, including how research can be applied to clinical practice in pediatrics, as well as public policy and advocacy for child health issues. The following research topics were selected to be presented by the noted physicians at the next PAS conference, to be held in April in San Diego, California: “Attitudes, behaviors and environmental predictors for mothers ever having breast fed their infants.” o Dr. Ashley Duray, graduate of the pediatric residency program at Sacred Heart Hospital o Dr. James Burns, adolescent medicine specialist with The Children’s Hospital at Sacred Heart “Does Bullying Correlate To Depression in Children/Adolescents?” o Dr. Anacani Fonseca, graduate of the pediatric residency program at Sacred Heart Hospital o Dr. James Burns, adolescent medicine specialist with The Children’s Hospital at Sacred Heart “Decreased lung function in patients with cystic fibrosis related diabetes.” o Dr. Fatima Neemuchwala, pediatric residency program at Sacred Heart Hospital o Dr. Snehal Vala, co-chief resident for the pediatric residency program at Sacred Heart Hospital o Dr. Aaron S. Chidekel, pediatric pulmonologist with Nemours Children’s Clinic, Delaware o Dr. James Burns, adolescent medicine specialist with The Children’s Hospital at Sacred Heart o Dr. Okan Elidemir, pediatric pulmonologist with Nemours Children’s Clinic, Pensacola "Impact of implementation of a multidisciplinary diabetes program on reducing poorly controlled diabetes.” o Dr. Tricia Pinto, pediatric residency program at Sacred Heart Hospital o Dr. Raid W. Amin, professor for the department of mathematics and statistics at the University of West Florida o Dr. James Burns, adolescent medicine specialist with The Children’s Hospital at Sacred Heart o Dr. Mark Kummer, pediatric endocrinologist with Nemours Children’s Clinic, Pensacola “Effect of knowledge on compliance in patients with cystic fibrosis.” o Dr. Snehal Vala, co-chief resident for the pediatric residency program at Sacred Heart Hospital o Dr. Fatima Neemuchwala, pediatric residency program at Sacred Heart Hospital o Dr. Alicia Della Volpe, pediatric pulmonologist with Nemours Children’s Clinic, Pensacola o Dr. James Burns, adolescent medicine specialist with The Children’s Hospital at Sacred Heart o Dr. Okan Elidemir, pediatric pulmonologist with Nemours Children’s Clinic, Pensacola “The Likelihood of Serious Bacterial Infections in Neonates with Incidental Hypothermia.” o Dr. Talal Seddik, pediatric residency program at Sacred Heart Hospital o Dr. Amy Lee, pediatric residency program at Sacred Heart Hospital Sacred Heart Hospital’s pediatric residency program works in conjunction with Florida State University’s College of Medicine.
