Poet Kim Addonizio will return to Pensacola State College on Oct. 22 for a reading of her work—this time with a blues band in tow. Her program in the Ashmore Fine Arts Auditorium will include performances by veteran blues guitarist Steve Gunter and jazz pianist Bobby Van Deusen Addonizio filled the PSC auditorium last year, holding the audience with her blend of poetry, impromptu remarks and harmonica playing. Addonizio’s poem inspired by the great bluesman Robert Johnson gave organizers the idea for this year’s program.  The blues band will play an opening set at 7:30 p.m., and Addonizio will take the stage at 8. “We can’t say for sure, but maybe there will be a big jam at the end of the night,” said event organizer and sax player Thom Botsford. English professor Todd Neuman, a long-time fan, said Addonizio “is not only one of America’s leading poets, but also a tremendous blues musician.  Beyond that, she has a way of connecting with people that leaves the audience saying, ‘Wow.’” Billed as “one of our nation’s most provocative and edgy poets,” Addonizio has received a Guggenheim Fellowship, two NEA Fellowships, and Pushcart Prizes for her poetry and essays. Her latest books are “Lucifer at the Starlite” and “Ordinary Genius: A Guide for the Poet Within,” both published by W.W. Norton.   A new story collection, “The Palace of Illusions,” was released last month by Counterpoint/Soft Skull. PSC students will be admitted free with a valid student ID. Otherwise tickets are $11 for adults, $9 for seniors 60 and above, $9 for students attending other universities, and $7 for Senior Club members and PSC employees. Tickets may be purchased at the Ashmore’s ticket window in building 8 on the Pensacola campus, online at lyceum.pensacolastate.edu, or by phone at (850) 484-1847. PSC students should pick up their free tickets at the Ashmore ticket window. For more information, call Botsford at (850) 484-1447.
