Pensacola Police K-9 Handler Bruce Harris and his four-legged partner Enio are among three top K-9 teams in the country.
The pair were among 104 K-9 teams from approximately 15 states participating in the 2014 U.S. Police K - 9 Association’s National Patrol dog certification and competition this week in Wilson, N.C. The event was hosted by the Wilson Police Department.
The five-day event covered obedience, ability, article search, suspect search, and criminal apprehension. Harris and Enio finished third overall with a score of 689 out of a possible 700.
They also had the top obedience score of 119.68 and were in the top five in criminal apprehension. Pensacola Police K-9 Handlers Harry Barraclough and his partner Uno and David Rogers and his partner Darek also did well and earned national certification in patrol work.
Enio is a 3-year-old Belgian Malinois, Uno is a 7-year-old Belgian Malinois and Darek is a 4-year-old German shepherd. All three dogs are dual-certified in patrol and narcotics search, said Barraclough, who is the officer-in-charge of the department’s K-9 Unit.
The Pensacola Police Department has six K-9s, three of whom have earned national certification. The other three have regional and state certification and are working on earning national certification in March 2015, Barraclough said.
