The price we pay for having nice things

A million dollars a year. That’s how much the price tag to replace the Santa Rosa Courthouse goes up every year the project is delayed. And that doesn’t account for the money that will be spent to prop up — literally — parts of the structure the longer it limps along as it is. Look no one likes taxes. Complaining about taxes is as American as America itself. But services aren’t free. If we want things, we have to pay for them. And to pay for big things, we pool our money through taxes and pay for things we would never be able to finance otherwise. That’s also part of the deal.
