With more than 60 employers scheduled to attend, the sixth annual CareerSource EscaRosa/Pensacola State College Fall Community Career Fair is expected to be the largest ever.

“There will be employers hiring for positions ranging from specialized or skilled trades, like welding, nursing, etc., to customer service positions,” said Morgan Cole, outreach representative for CareerSource Escarosa. “This career fair benefits all job-seekers in our community, no matter their skill level. There will be a variety of employers hiring for all types of positions.”

The Fall Community Career Fair is set for Sept. 26 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at PSC’s Amos Performance Studio, located at 1000 College Blvd., Pensacola.

Jobs are a major concern for the Pensacola area. The recent 2014 Pensacola Metro Report, commissioned and published by the Studer Institute, showed that the biggest source of income in the Pensacola area comes from government benefits, like Social Security and Medicare, not labor.

The jobs that do remain in the area are typically in the service industry. Five of the top 10 jobs predicted to increase by 2020 are service-related, with an average hourly wage of $10.80.

The Fall Community Career Fair will offer job-seeking opportunities for direct interaction with employers, according to Cole.

“Job seekers should come prepared with copies of their resume,” she said. “Some employers may direct applicants to their websites to apply.”

Even representatives who direct applicants to websites will be beneficial.

“They will have face-to-face interaction with key personnel at the event and will also have a chance to make an impression with prospective employers,” Cole said. “Applicants will learn of open positions and specifics on qualifications and/or how to apply for these open positions that might not be posted elsewhere.”

Businesses signed up for the career fair include: Clear Channel Media & Entertainment, Cumulus Media, Emerald Coast Utility Authority, Walmart, Navy Federal Credit Union, the University of West Florida, Gulf Power, ADX Communications (CatCountry & News Radio AM 1620), DeepFlex, VT Mobile Aerospace Engineering, Express Employment Professionals, Pensacola Police Department, Florida National Guard, IGATE, Verizon Wireless, Ingalls Shipbuilding, Andrews Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Center, Baptist Hospital, City of Pensacola, Halifax Medical Group, TEKSystems, Mediacom Communications, CVS/Caremark, Home Depot, SMG/Pensacola Bay Center, Medical Center Clinic and Columbia Southern University, among others.
