PSC students win 22 medals at SkillsUSA Conference

Pensacola State College students won 22 medals at the 2015 SkillsUSA State Conference in Lakeland recently. They earned eight gold medals, six silver medals and eight bronze medals.

More than 1,000 students from across Florida competed in about 100 events based on workforce skills, leadership and service at the two-day conference.

Gold medal individual winners were Barbara Cherry, Commercial Baking; Andrew Cobb, Welding; Melissa Roberson, Practical Nursing; Jennifer Waggoner, Cosmetology; and Kendall Whitley, Customer Service.

Gold team medals in Law, Public Safety and Security Career Pathways Showcase went to Kathryn Browser, Taylor Mariah Moore and Justina Tungol.

Silver medal individual winners were Evan Baker, Welding Sculpture; Jeffrey Cox, Job Demo A; and Travis Spivey, Job Interview.

Silver team medals in Crime Scene Investigation went to Kenya Faust, William Gorday and Amanda Nahkala.

Bronze medal individual winners were Chelsea Mason, Commercial Baking; and Harley Salter, Carpentry.

Bronze team medals in Crime Scene Investigation went to Patrick Bell, Rose Patton-James and Sara Smith.

Bronze team medals in Welding Fabrication went to Gilbert Calderon, Dustin Rector and Robert Jones.

Gold medal winners advance to the SkillsUSA national competition in Louisville, Ky., in June. SkillsUSA is a national organization for students enrolled in career and technical education programs.
