Escambia County citizens have until Thursday to submit ideas and talk about projects that should receive local funding from BP oil fines. The RESTORE Act Advisory Committee, formed by Escambia County to develop recommendations for short- and long-term recovery strategies after the BP oil spill, has worked with county staff and the consultant firm Dewberry to include public input into the development of a draft Needs Assessment document. Draft Needs Assessments are guidelines that officials will use to examine and evaluate projects to consider for funding from fines imposed on BP as a result of the oil spill. Now that the Needs Assessment is in the final stages, area citizens have an opportunity to review the draft document and provide feedback. The team is looking for input on the accuracy of the overall needs of Escambia County and for other significant things to consider. The needs have been divided into four categories: economy, infrastructure, environment and social issues. The Needs Assessment will be used as a way to evaluate the overall impact of future proposed projects in each areas of concern. For more information about how the RESTORE Act works and steps the RESTORE Act Advisory Committed has taken to implement it, visit http://www.myescambia.com/restore/links. Submit comments to [email protected]. The comments received will be presented to the RESTORE Act Advisory Committee at its meeting on Nov. 3. The committee will accept additional comments at that meeting
