Rolling Hills permit revocation hearing under way

The Pensacola News Journal's Kevin Robinson covered the administrative law hearing that will determine if the Rolling Hills C&D Landfill will be able to continue to operate. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection revoked the facility's permit in July, citing a list of violations and failures to comply with regulations at the facility in Wedgewood.
FDEP engineer Dawn Templin said November 2013 testing at the landfill revealed that levels of iron, lead, zinc and other materials did not meet water quality standards. She also said she saw debris at the site such as tires and residential trash that was unrelated to construction and demolition at thus prohibited at the site. Templin testified that the odor of the debris at the landfill was strong enough to make her ill.
