This election day, Santa Rosa voters will be asked to add one cent of sales tax to the rolls for five years to fund the construction of a judicial center to replace the courthouse in Milton. The core of that building was built in 1927. Voters also will be asked to rank three possible locations for the new courthouse facility -- downtown behind the current courthouse, a parcel near Peter Prince Airport and one on U.S. 90 in Pea Ridge, not far from the PSC Milton campus. The tax would, for five years, add one cent to the 6.5 cents sales tax they currently pay. It’s an extra penny that you pay on taxable goods when you buy across the county line in Escambia already. It’s not the first time voters have been asked to pay to replace the courthouse. A similar effort was voted down in 2002. Since then, the need to replace the courthouse has grown greater. In this episode of "Progress+Promise," airing this week on Blab-TV and WUWF-TV, we talked about the ballot measure and what it means for Santa Rosa residents. If you missed us on air, watch here.
