Scare up fun at Boo at the Zoo

Looking for wild Halloween fun? Zoo animals and costumed critters alike come out in force for a what’s proven to be a unique, fun-filled way to experience the Gulf Breeze Zoo. The annual Boo at the Zoo is Oct. 25-26 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. “Boo at the Zoo is our biggest event of the year,” said Valerie Pennock, marketing director at the Gulf Breeze Zoo. “We’ll have a costume contest, face painting, bounce houses, balloon making, critter stations and touch tanks, in addition to all of our usual animal exhibits and activities. “It is a scare-free event geared toward all ages.” [sidebar] Want to go? DETAILS: Visit www.gulfbreezezoo.org or call (850) 932-2229. [/sidebar] A Trick-or-Treat Trail is set up throughout the Zoo and children receive a free trick-or-treat bag upon entering. Sponsors from local businesses will be at stations along the trail, greeting guests and handing out candy. Each day at 1 p.m., judges will award prizes for the best costumes. Registration for the costume contest begins at 12:30 p.m. “Some of the newer animals at the Zoo that guests can see are two baby zebras, flamingos, and we have twin baby pygmy goats in our farm yard,” Pennock said. “They can feed birds inside the Budgie Aviary.” The popular Zoo train will be running during Boo at the Zoo. Rides are not included in the cost of admission, but tickets can be purchased on site. “Boo at the Zoo is a good time to see all the animals and take advantage of all the extra Halloween activities,” Pennock said. Tickets for adults and children are $12 each, with children under age 2 admitted free. Gulf Breeze Zoo Season Pass holders receive half-off their admission.
