The University of West Florida women’s basketball team earned the No. 2 seed in the Gulf South Conference Tournament, and the Argonauts will host No. 7 seed Shorter in the tournament quarterfinals at the UWF Field House on Tuesday at 6 p.m. UWF won the GSC championship for the first time last season, and the Argonauts will look to win back-to-back titles this week. UWF finished the regular season with a record of 19-7 and a 16-6 mark in conference play. Union in Tennessee will be the tournament’s No. 1 seed after going 23-3 with a 19-3 conference record. The Argonauts’ first round opponent, Shorter, finished tied for seventh in the league standings (12-16, 8-14) and earned the No. 7 seed in a tiebreaker with Alabama-Huntsville (11-17, 8-14). In Tuesday’s quarterfinal game at the UWF Field House, general admission tickets will be available for $10 and student tickets will be $3 each. The first 100 UWF students to arrive and present their Nautilus Card will be admitted free courtesy of UWF athletics. No passes will be honored, as Tuesday’s game is a part of the GSC Tournament and is not a regular season game. Fans not able to attend the game in person will be able to follow online with live video and live stats at GoArgos.com. The semifinals and finals of the VisitSpaceCoast.com Gulf South Conference Basketball Championships will be held at the Pete Hanna Center on Friday on the campus of Samford University in Birmingham, Ala. The games start at noon and 2:30 p.m. If UWF advances to the semifinals on Friday, the Argonauts will play the winner of the quarterfinal game between Delta State (17-9, 15-7 GSC) and Valdosta State (14-14, 10-12 GSC). Tip-off for the semifinal game on Friday would be either 12 p.m. or 2:30 p.m., and the championship game on Saturday is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start. Ticket prices for the semifinals and finals will be $10 for general admission and $3 for students with valid identification. Fans can save 30 percent when they preorder general admission tickets online at GSCSports.org/tickets. Student tickets will only be available at the Pete Hanna Center box office. One dollar of each ticket will be donated to Neverthirst project, and more information can be found online at neverthirstwater.org. Fans not able to attend the games in person will be able to follow online with live video and live stats at GSCSports.org. The championship games on Saturday will be available online on ESPN3.
