A lot of people will be going to the movies this weekend to see “Mad Max,” but the real road warrior will be pulling his bus into the Vinyl Music Hall today. Ground-breaking roots/alt-country singer and songwriter Steve Earle will play a two hour set tonight, showcasing music from his almost 30-year career, as well as songs from his most recent album “Terraplane,”, but it’s just one stop on a trek that lasts until September. “In North America, we’re doing five more weeks, take two off, go out for five more, take two off, then back for eight more,” Earle said. “Then we head to Europe on October 14 and tour through November.” Earle says that the business side of being a musician has changed since his early major label days in the eighties when he released albums like Guitar Town and Copperhead Road. “There is no more music business,” Earle said. “The good thing is that there is still music – that never stops.” [sidebar] Want to go? Earle has been very open about his life and his personal struggle with the demons that almost killed him, but he doesn’t dwell on the past. “I don’t really know what I could have done different,” Earle said. “I’m an addict and that manifested at an early age. It’s part of my genetic makeup.” Earle says that he’d rather stay focused on what’s in front, rather than behind him. “It’s the way I live and stay alive,” he said. “I live in the right now, not the past.”
