Rain could not dampen the spirits of attendees for the unveiling of the historic marker to honor the late Rev. William C. Dobbins and the NAACP Youth Council who staged sit-ins to desegregate the lunch counters in downtown Pensacola in 1961. Over 25 members of the Youth Council, who ranged from age 13-19 in 1961, came from across the country came for the dedication of the marker. Speakers included Dr. Sarah Jonas, whose UWF Dissertation helped spur the movement to get the marker placed and Raymond Harvey, who was the Youth Advisor for the NAACP and worked alongside Rev. Dobbins in 1961. The marker stands at Palafox and Garden Streets in downtown Pensacola, which was the site of the Woolworths' lunch counter at the time.
