Kathleen Logan calls it the book that every American should read. It’s called "The Things They Carried" and its author, Tim O’Brien, stopped by BlabTV's studio last week to record an interview. The show airs on BlabTV tonight – Monday, Oct. 13 –  at 9 p.m. Titled “The Things They Carried,” the interview also is available at BlabTV.com. No one can read O’Brien’s book and not be affected, said Kathleen Logan, who served 6 1/2 years in the Navy. “Every citizen in America should read it. It gets to the heart of what going to war means.” Dick Appleyard, president of the Appleyard Agency, interviewed O’Brien along with Flack Logan, a retired Navy captain who served on the USS Forrestal and flew combat missions in Vietnam, and his wife, Kathleen. Some of the more senior folks at Blab who were at the taping say the interview was one of the best they’ve seen at station. “The Things They Carried” is a novel about a platoon of American soldiers in the Vietnam War. The West Florida Public Library chose O’Brien’s book as part of the Big Read, a national endowment for the arts initiative aimed at encouraging people to appreciate good literature. Groups throughout the area have been reading the book for the past month. Pensacola Today’s Reggie Dogan also interviewed O’Brien as well as the Logans.
