The University of West Florida Clinical Laboratory Sciences Program recently achieved re-accreditation for seven years through the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science. Director Kristina Behan said the program has developed strong ties in the medical community, and the students’ efforts are a big reason for the re-accreditation. “This is very important for our students,” said Behan “As graduates of one of the few accredited programs in Florida, our students will continue to be competitive in the job market. In fact, a majority of my students have a job offer even before they graduate.” The UWF program is one of only four accredited university clinical lab sciences programs in the state. Accreditation ensures the quality of the curriculum and that students will be eligible to sit for the Board of Certification examination offered by the American Society for Clinical Pathology. Graduates of the program are sought out by hospitals and related medical laboratories to carry out laboratory tests, ensure the quality of results and evaluate new methods.
