UWF men’s golf team ranks No. 11 in Division II coaches poll

The University of West Florida men’s golf team moved up five spots to No. 11 in the first spring edition of the Bushnell Golfweek Division II Coaches Poll released on Friday. Nova Southeastern holds the No. 1 spot in the poll with 399 points, while Barry is ranked No. 2 with 380. UWF is the third highest ranked Gulf South Conference team in the rankings, as North Alabama is eighth and West Georgia ninth. Senior Juan Miguel Heredia (Cuenca, Ecuador) and freshman Chandler Blanchet (Gainesville) have led UWF so far in 2014-15. Heredia holds a scoring average of 72.18 through 11 rounds, and Blanchet is slightly behind at 72.92 through 13 rounds. Heredia also leads the team with seven rounds of par or better, while Blanchet is tied with Spencer Olson (Pensacola for second on the team with five. The Argos will be back in action on March 1-2 when they will attempt to win their third straight title at the Las Vegas Desert Classic. UWF placed first at the tournament in 2013 and again in 2014.
