UWF student gets encore at Carnegie Hall

University of West Florida music student James Matthews will return for an encore performance at Carnegie Hall in New York City on May 23.
The invitation came from the American Protégé International Competition, where he received an honorable mention in last year's competition. Matthews will be performing "Funerailles" by Franz Liszt.
Matthews will graduate this fall and is a member of the studio of Distinguished University Professor, Hedi Salanki.
“I am really humbled and shocked that I’ve been asked to play at Carnegie Hall for the second time," said Matthews. “I’ve grown so much over the past year, due to the intense training and education I’ve received from Dr. Salanki, and I feel even more prepared to perform at Carnegie Hall. I look forward to showcasing what being a piano student at UWF is all about.”
Matthews will be presenting a dress rehearsal prior to his departure for New York on Monday, May 18 at 4 p.m. at Dollarhide's Music Center located in downtown Pensacola. The dress rehearsal is free and open to the public.
