Dr. Jenna Emery, assistant professor in the Department of Government at UWF, will be the lead facilitator at an interactive leadership workshop for women sponsored by the Institute for Women in Politics of Northwest Florida. The event will take place on Saturday, February 28, at 40 South Alcaniz Street in Pensacola in facilities provided by IHMC (Institute for Human and Machine Cognition) and will run from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The topic of the free workshop is “From Booster Club to County Commission: How Successful Candidates Prepare for Politics.” Escambia County Clerk of the Court Pam Childers and Santa Rosa School Board member Carol Boston will be the featured speakers. Former Pensacola City Councilwoman Diane Mack, who serves as president of the women’s Institute, will also facilitate. “While the primary focus of the workshop is politics, it’s not just about running for office,” Dr. Emery said. “The women who attend this workshop will learn that making connections and building relationships can aid them also in strengthening a non-profit organization they work with or in promoting a cause.” The free workshop is open to all women in the region. Advance registration is required as space is limited to 30 participants. To register, go to iwpflorida.org and click on “Workshops.” For more information, email the Institute at [email protected].
