Virginia College celebrated the grand opening of its campus with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, May 21. The event at the new 43,000 square foot campus, 312 E. Nine Mile Road, Suite 34, also served as the Greater Pensacola Chamber’s May BusinessAfter Hours networking event. The private institution outgrew its 25,000 square foot campus, sparking a move to a larger building. Like other Virginia College campuses, the school chose to renovate an existing building to beautify the area and give back to the local community. The new campus represents an investment of $5.1 million in construction, furniture, equipment and signage costs. “It’s a pleasure to announce our new location and expanded programs in Pensacola,” said President Kim Coolidge. “The students, faculty and staff are thrilled with the move. The transition to a larger and better-equipped campus will improve the programs offered to our students and help us better serve employers who hire our graduates. We are proud to raise the economic level of the area and to continue our commitment to be an outstanding corporate citizen here in the city of Pensacola.” The campus not only expanded its building but also the breadth of programs offered, including a cosmetology program in which students began class on Tuesday, April 21. The cosmetology program at Virginia College provides students with a solid background of practical hands-on training directly related to the cosmetology industry and prepares students to take the State Board of Cosmetology licensing examination. “We are excited to see such growth at the Virginia College campus in Pensacola,” said Stu Reed, president and chief executive officer of Education Corporation of America, the parent company of Virginia College. “This new campus is an investment in all of our students as we strive to provide superior facilities, programs and faculty to provide the best education possible for them.” Opened in 1992, Virginia College in Pensacola offers programs in fields such as business administration, business office specialist, cosmetology, customer service professional, healthcare reimbursement, medical assistant, medical billing and coding, network technician, patient care technician, pharmacy technician, pharmacy technology, practical nursing, sales professional and surgical technology. With the Pensacola campus, Virginia College has a total of 27 campuses across the Southeast in 11 states, as well as online programs at vc.edu/online.
